How to count the number of cells containing numbers
Very often we are required to find the count of cells in a
range that contain numbers. Like in the below mentioned example we have shown the quantity sold against the names of the each sale.
Now since we have the serial numbers mentioned against each
sale so we can easily tell how many sales were done. But in case we did not
have the serial number the how would we find out how many sales happened, well
we can do that using the COUNT FORMULA.
The COUNT FORMULA would be used to count the number of cells
which have a number mentioned in the sales column like shown in the example
below
Now in the example we have selected column F to find the
number of cells containing numbers, what would happen if we selected column E also
which has the names of the fruits sold?
We would still get the same answer! Why, because the COUNT
FORMULA only counts the cells the cells containing numbers and ignores other cells.
See example below
The count formula works
for cells containing numbers vertically, horizontally or both i.e. a range as
shown in the example below
How to apply the
Count Formula
Just select the range for which you want to the find the
count of cells containing cells and type
=count (cell range)
That it so simple J
